Silk Creations by Janey is delivering a very special scarf this evening.....

Silk Creations by Janey was commissioned to create a very special scarf for a very special woman going through the toughest battle of her life.  I wanted to create a very peaceful, loving, passionate and strong combination of colors to comfort her in this time.  This piece is a 22x90 Silk Charmuese, the highest quality and most luscious of the silks I use.  There are over 30 layers of color on this piece with each one being laid with purpose, love and passion.  It is with love that I send this piece of my art to her.

Silk Creations by Janey was up early to set up for tomorrow's show!!  We arrived at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium here in Annapolis just after 8 a.m.  My wonderful helpers, Erica and Wanda, were there to help set up the show!!!  We were actually the first people to arrive this morning!!!

Silk Creations by Janey uses a variety of brushes to apply the dye on each silk for amazing results!!

Silk Creations by Janey creates each unique and colorful scarf by hand painting each silk by using a variety of brushes.  Although sometimes my work is confused with tie dyeing or batik, I only apply the color by using brushes.  It is a longer process than other silk dyeing, but it is a process that I absolutely LOVE!!  Each layer of dye creates a new element and it is not until I believe the color and the design is what my eye believes to be the best result that I will step back and take a breath!!

Silk Creations by Janey just started a 35x35 piece featuring a poppy flower....so excited!!!!  I have not named the series yet but am looking for inspiration!!!!  I can't wait to show this piece when it is done!!!!!!

Silk Creations by Janey is creating more Kristen Rainbow Series!!

Oh my!!  Silk Creations by Janey was very honored that the Kristen Rainbow scarf featured earlier was received with such joy!!!!  So, whenever I get that kind of response, I then want to create more of that series!!!  So, I have worked long hours to create a few amazing pieces that I cannot show yet because they are not steamed yet but OH MY I am so excited about these new pieces of art!!!!!!!!!

Silk Creations by Janey uses several different types of silk.

Silk Creations by Janey uses several different types of silk, all imported from China.  Each beautiful silk arrives at my door pure, white and without any color at all. All of the silks are hand hemmed and are various sizes.  When you receive your silk, you will receive a Certificate of Authentication that will detail what silk fabric of which the scarf is made. 


The beautiful silks used by Silk Creations by Janey all arrive in their pure white form.  Each silk is inspected before use to see if there are any obvious imperfections.  Although at times there are imperfections, I believe that sometimes these imperfections create additional depth and beauty to the piece of art.

Silk is measured in Mommes (mm).

Mommes (mm), traditionally used to measure silk fabrics, the weight in pounds of a piece of fabric if it were sized 45 inches by 100 yards. One momme = 4.340 grams per square meter; 8 mommes is approximately 1 ounce per square yard or 35 grams per square meter.
The momme is based on the standard width of silk of 45 inches wide (though silk is regularly produced in 55-inch widths, and, uncommonly, in even larger widths).
The range of momme weight for different weaves of silk used by Silk Creations by Janey are:

• Habutai (Habotai)—8 mm
• Flat Crepe - a cross between Habotai and Chiffon 8 mm
• Chiffon—8 mm
• Crepe de Chine—12mm (the Mercedes of the silks) and 16.5 mm (the Rolls Royce of the silks)
• Silk Satin - a medium weight and luxurious silk - 12 mm
• Silk Charmeuse—12 to 30 mm

The higher the weight in mommes, the more durable the weave, and the more suitable it is for heavy-duty use. And, the heavier the silk, the more opaque it becomes. This can vary even between the same kind of silk. For example, lightweight charmeuse is translucent when used in clothing, but 30-momme charmeuse is opaque.
